Bodybuilding and Weight Lifting Guide
Forums: Index > Watercooler > Muscle symmetry. How?

I am 24 years old and I've been on and off weight training since I was 15 or so. I have been trying to get serious over the last year and I've been doing fairly well as far as getting stronger and a bit bigger. I took a couple months off, because I had swine flu, and now I'm back on the wagon doing the beginner strength program. I'm almost back where I left off, and I'm noticing, well I should say, I've always noticed it, but I'm beginning to be bothered with the lack of muscle symmetry I have. I'm worried if I don't correct it now it will be nearly impossible later, especially as I am adding more and more weight.

I am right handed so obviously I'm going to have a more defined right side, but my symmetry is bad far beyond that. The line down my chest in between my pecs and abdominals is horrible. It curves one way between my pecs, and then the other way between my abdominals, forming an "S" shape. I think even my traps are messed up. It looks really bad in my eyes, and everyone is there own worst critic, but It's pretty noticeable. I really want to become more balanced looking. I'll do whatever it takes, even if it means I have to tone down the weights I've worked so hard to reach.

I work out by myself so form is hard to monitor, but I think I have pretty good form overall and I hold form in high regard, but I think without being able to really look at all the off balances it has definately effected my symmetrical structure. I'm not that rich, so a personal trainer is not something I'm stoked about, but I'll do anything. I was considering getting into body building so I could learn the methods.

I would appreciate any pointers and advice.

Thanks.
